The high-performance Powerwall implemented by imsys at Bombardier – a manufacturer of aircraft and technology for rail traffic – is used for sales presentations as well as for virtual test runs in the areas of engineering, design reviews, installation space and ergonomics studies. Nowadays, the production of expensive previous models can be considerably improved by virtual test runs.
“In this way, development and installation steps can be accelerated and optimized or eliminated completely,” explains Mr. Dietz, Head of Digital Manufacturing at Bombardier Transportation. “Finally, we can see the developed vehicle in full size on the high-performance Powerwall and even touch it. It can also simulate the effects of heat, cold, airflow and material deformation as well as the space required for passengers,” continues Mr. Dietz.
The Powerwall in rear projection is equipped with a high contrast acrylic screen and has an image area of 480×300 cm. Such life-size visualizations allow a strong interactive immersion. The tracking with a 4-camera system allows two-handed manual interaction with position detection.
