With the opening of its own Virtual Reality (VR) and Innovation Center in Schwaebisch Hall, new possibilities for packaging machine construction are now available. The VR Training Center offers users a wide variety of applications and contributes to an intensive training experience.

The VR-Center is a joint project of member companies and Packaging Valley and part of Initiative 4.0 in packaging machine construction. It is available in particular to member companies, but also to other interested companies. The possibilities are extremely versatile and range from design reviews and mockups, user trainings and workshops, design and assembly planning, presentations and video conferences to 3D cinema screenings.

“Everyone who comes here is impressed with the technology. Users should be encouraged to use the existing infrastructure and use VR technology as often as possible. After all, virtual engineering is a decisive factor for machine manufacturers so as not to lose touch on the road to Industry 4.0,” explains Kurt Engel, CEO of Packaging Valley.

The following media technology is used:

  • Powerwall rear projection with a presentation area of 4m x 2,5m for stereo and mono display
  • A separate front projection for further presentation possibilities
  • Mobile whiteboard with touch display

For a 4m x 2.5m projection screen, Imsys installed two Barco F85 front projection solutions. “Projection is used to simulate machines and processes. We have integrated a camera system for motion detection,” explains Tankred Magg. “With active 3D display up to 120 Hz, the Barco F85 is perfectly suited for simulation applications in the VR center. In addition to the Barco projectors, Imsys installed two ClickShare presentation systems for wireless transfer of screen contents from smartphones, laptops or tablets to the Powerwall and a smaller touch screen that was also installed.
